Just 5 Books!

I am writing this blog because of two blogs in my Pastor Justin's blog. One of my wonderful friends, Lisa asked Justin by email a question: "I'm still wresting with book choices. If you only had five non-scholarly/non-commentary books with you during the next three years what would you choose?"

It is about what 5 books to take oversea with you when you will be away for 3 years or longer on away from home trip. Read both of his blog:

Book Giveaway: Just 5 Books

I am so thankful for the computer technology nowadays because we do have access to a lot of things online just as Bible online and many more. ESV Study Bible is online, and all of John Piper's books are online. I do hope that all of his books is online. Although, I prefer to read it in book form, and I can be content to have it online instead of book form. That would be a real challenge for me.

Among my 5 books and in addition taking my Bible, I would be taking my ESV Bible which I need to eat daily. We all need to be eating His Word daily!

First of all, I would rather take books what would help me to witness to other or to understand their belief or their doctrine. This isn't easy to list what books to take with me if I am going oversea for mission trip for 3 years.

1) Bible Doctrine by Wayne Grudem. I am currently reading this one. Great book to have and helpful when you come across with someone with different view or doctrine.

2) Twenty Basics Every Christian Should Know by Elliot Grudem and his dad, Wayne.(That is available in Kindle edition) This would help me as I educated a new believer for Christ. I haven't read this book yet. I would love to get this.

3) The Reason for God: Belief in an Age of Skepticism by Timothy Keller. I haven't read this one, but I do believe this will help me in witnessing to other and to understand their struggle with belief.

4) Respectable Sins: Confronting the Sins We Tolerate by Jerry Bridges. I need this for me and to be able use it for His Glory. I don't have this book or haven't read it yet.

5) Growing in God's Spirit by Jonathan Edwards. I haven't read that and want to be continuing to be growing in God's Spirit. Also thought this would also help me to minister to other to come to grow in Him.

Beside all this: I would get Dictionary from Franklin that does have other languages in electronic form that I can learn from. This would be better than a book form and easy to carry it every where. I do have this one from them.

Now, since I wouldn't be able to take all the books or Bible with me oversea. I would include Palm Pilot, or i-Pod, or Blackberry, or Kindle. That way I can have more books that I want to read from. Although, I do prefer in book form instead of that electronic stuff. Yes, I would be taking digital camera with me. I don't have one though. Also I would be taking my lap top computer! I don't have that one but do have a desk top one.

I want to encourage you all to enter into the contest to win a free book from Justin.
