I was surfing online with Crosswalk, and someone wrote a post Who is a True Jew? He was using KJV, and I wasn't use to that. As I read his post, I thought that this poor guy got to learn to use the online Bible Study tool that Crosswalk have, so that he can copy and pasted it. I kept seeing errors in his post as he was posting the scriptures in KJV.
I was about to write a reply and encourage him to use the online Bible Study tools. I pull out my ESV and look it up, and I was right. But I did also pull my KJV because he was using KJV so that I can point out his errors. That is when I learned a lot. KJV does throw me off with its own word or name.
For instance: in Matthew 1:2-3 KJV ~
2 Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;
3 And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;
When I read that I saying that had to be a typo because Jacob begat Judah not Judas. I kept thinking about the Lion of Judah. This didn't make any sense to me then I realized this is the way KJV does write this. I didn't like that at all, but I have learned.
I did look up in other translations such as ESV, NKJV, and NASB. They all used "Judah" and not "Judas". I am wondering why KJV used "Judas" and not "Judah".
Not for the post of Who is a True Jew? I just happend to be looking in KJV during the time as I was looking about Judas and Judah, I spotted something else that did throw me off again, and I had to laugh.
Matthew 2:17 KJV ~
17 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying,
When I read the word / name "Jeremy", I had to laughed. I couldn't believe that KJV did that. That didn't sound like KJV to me because it is using a nick name. Then again I did look up in other translations such as ESV, NKJV and NASB. They all used the name "Jeremiah" and not "Jeremy".
I know that I have learned a lot today in KJV, and its words. This had taught me a lesson. I do know that I am not KJV only.
By the way, for the reason for reading the post Who is a True Jew? The title of the post had brought back the flood of memory of one of the deaf Jew that I met on the Video Phone at my deaf friend's place. She had been to a Baptist Church for the Deaf in her hometown. She does know who Jesus is, but she haven't accepted Him as her personal Lord and Savior because she felt that in order to be a True Jew is to die as a True Jew for not accepting Him as her persoanl Lord and Savior. I know this is sad.
We do need to share who Jesus is in our life to the Jew whether they will accept Him or not. They do need to know more about Him.
