Learning about other cultures

I would encourage everyone to learn about their friends that are from a different culture or from another country. This is very educational experience.

I work with several co-workers who are from India. They are a very hard working people. They can educate you who they are and their belief. I do find that is very interesting. I got a lot to learn from them as I work with them.

They know who I am and understand that I am a strong believer. They also know that I am into Biblical Studies Major. Yet, they love me and want to educate me about their belief. I try to learn and understand them. Since I am hearing impaired, and they understand that I do have hard time understanding their accent. They do have a lot of patience with me and will write down what they said or repeat again to make sure that I understood them. I will repeat back to them to see if I got that right. They do get happy about that.

One of the ladies was telling me about Caste System in India, and she encouraged me to look that up online. Wow! That is very educational information to understand their culture in India especially among the Hindu people.

I would encourage other to make friend with other types of people to understand who they are and understand their belief and where they come from. It is a very educational experience to work with them and make friends with them.

I would love to go on the short-term mission trip to India with a group, but I got a lot to learn. I don’t think that I can do that on my own because of not able to understand their accents, and they would not know me.

In United States, we have one language that is English, but in India, they have more than one language. Hindi is the national language there, but not all of them can speak Hindi. One of my friends speaks Telugu, others speak Gujarati, and there are a lot more different languages in India.

I also had witness to them by giving them a tract written in their language. But they do embrace another religious. I would love to find the right tract that can tell them that they can’t embrace another god or religious.

I do remember that one of the ladies, who is a Hindu and from India that used to work with us. She told me that she prayed to Jesus for the job to stay while the temps were supposed to be off the next day. She was one of the temps. I used to take her home from work when we were working overtime, and I had been teaching her some sign language. When I heard that she told me that she prayed to Jesus, so that she can work, and I asked her if she meant Jesus that we know by using the sign for Jesus, and why it was signed that way. She was patting her heart and nodding her head as for yes for that is the one. Later, I gave her the book of the Gospel of John in English. She does read English very well. She did enjoy the book but again embrace another religious. This is sad.

I know that we all need to be Bold as a Lion to witness to other. Please continue to pray for me as I witness to the Hindu people at work. It is not an easy job but learning to love them and sharing with them about my faith and also to learn from them as well.

In Christ Alone,
