I am aware of all the uproar what Albert Mohler wrote about Yoga and his view about it. I too agree with him in this case. But I did like to share with you about my view as well.
Back in the late '80 or early '90, I never had heard of yoga until I had been reading one of the Frank E. Peretti's books. I don't remembered which one it was. It is either This Present Darkness or Piercing the Darkness. In that book, Frank had written about yoga, and I didn't like that kind of evil spiritual relaxing idea of yoga the way they were sitting in special positions and meditating. It was too creepy for me to even think about it. Also I felt like that they would try to hypnotize you during your relaxing time of your own meditation into their kind of evil meditation into your mind. This is what scare me the most to even think about that. So therefore, I never like the thought of yoga and the purpose of yoga. I still do not like it even to today.
Why should we mixed yoga which is strange kind of meditation idea into our godly meditation? We shouldn't intermarriage both kind meditation together. We can only serve one God and not serve both. We all need to guard our heart, mind, and soul for Christ Alone and only for Him.
Let look into the Bible how we should meditated on His Word. There are a lot in the book of Psalm. I will quote some from New American Standard Bible (NASB), but the rest will be English Standard Version (ESV). First, let look at Joshua 1:8 and then rest of the Psalms.
8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Joshua 1:8 ESV
1 :1 Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree (firmly)
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers. Psalm 1:1-3 ESV (I had memorized this in NASB which will use the word "firmly" see above.)
4 Tremble, and do not sin;
Meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. Psalm 4:4 NASB
4 One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the LORD
And to meditate in His temple. Psalm 27:4 NASB
6 when I remember you upon my bed,
and meditate on you in the watches of the night; Psalm 63:6 ESV
3 When I remember God, I moan;
when I meditate, my spirit faints. Selah Psalm 77:3 ESV
6 I said, “Let me remember my song in the night;
let me meditate in my heart.”
Then my spirit made a diligent search: Psalm 77:6 ESV
12 I will ponder all your work,
and meditate on your mighty deeds. Psalm 77:12 ESV
15 I will meditate on your precepts
and fix my eyes on your ways. Psalm 119:15 ESV
23 Even though princes sit plotting against me,
your servant will meditate on your statutes. Psalm 119:23 ESV
27 Make me understand the way of your precepts,
and I will meditate on your wondrous works. Psalm 119:27 ESV
48 I will lift up my hands toward your commandments, which I love,
and I will meditate on your statutes. Psalm 119:48 ESV
78 Let the insolent be put to shame,
because they have wronged me with falsehood;
as for me, I will meditate on your precepts. Psalm 119:78 ESV
5 I remember the days of old;
I meditate on all that you have done;
I ponder the work of your hands. Psalm 143:5 ESV
5 On the glorious splendor of your majesty,
and on your wondrous works, I will meditate. Psalm 145:5 ESV
We can meditate on His Word as we are eating His Word, driving, waiting, sleeping, walking, and jogging. When we exercise, we can meditate on His Word without that yoga kind of idea.
Hungry to eat His Word,
