Why am I writing this? I had heard about catechism many times in book or online. I saw it is great and good. I also thought that is in the old days and not in currently using that.
Then last night, I had a very interesting conversation with someone who is Catholic that I hadn't seen a long time. I was questioning her about faith and what Bible translation do they use. She couldn't answer that question really. She said, "I think New Testament" mostly the letters. She also mention that they memorize prayer and catechism (of course, Catholic Catechism) when she was grew up in Catholic school. She did say that they didn't memorize verses from the Bible.
On the other hand, that might not be true for all Catholic about not knowing what Bible Translation that they are currently using or for not memorizing His Word. They might be able to answer that question about what translation that they are currently using. They also might be memorizing His Word along with/without catechism.
I am sure that other denomination do have catechism as well.
My first thought was "WHOA!" for not memorizing verses from the Bible. Then I was questioning myself what is the point to have catechism when they don't memorize His Word and do memorize catechism. I rather be eating His Word and memorizing His Word daily.
Then I remembered reading (skimming through) Allen Mickle's blog about What is a Catechism and Why Use it in the Church. I had to go to his blog to read why are they doing this. Interesting! Also, he did point out another blog by John Piper about A Baptist Catechism. MMMM! Very interesting point.
After reading all this, it wouldn't hurt to learn catechism, but please do continue to memorize His Word daily.
Lord willing, I will read them weekly and to learn from it. It is a very long one.
Hungry to eat His Word,
