A Hunger for God by John Piper

I am currently reading A Hunger for God by John Piper. I am not finish reading his book yet! This is the book that I really needed to read and am so thankful for John Piper's boldness to write this book. I do really want to share with you about his book without copying it down! I would encourage you all to get his book because it had taught me a lot of things. This is what I have observe:

Why are you fasting?

What are your motive or purpose for fasting?

Are you hungry for Him alone? or How hungry are you for Him alone?

There are many wonderful thoughts in his book about the true meaning of fasting. He also explain what Jesus was telling His disciples and others about true meaning about fasting, and the difference from traditional fasting and fasting for the Bridegroom. This book does have a lot of scriptures about fasting, and how we should be fasting for Him alone.

This book will test our heart and our motive for fasting. Only Jesus alone knows what kind of fasting we are doing and why we are fasting.

Back in the year of 2000, I did fasted for 40 days, but my motive wasn't for Him alone. My fasting was no computer games for 40 days. It was a good fasting because it did enable me to break my bad habit from playing computer games every day. I never went back to computer games again since then. That is a praise, but I wasn't putting Him first in my life like I should be doing.

So, this book had taught a lot about fasting for Him alone.

14 if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 ESV
